Isolations
"Isolations" explores the change in the artist’s perception towards herself and her surroundings since moving to Amsterdam in 2010.
These pieces show details in nature – a branch isolated from its tree, a tall grass taken from its field. The work showcase the unique beauty of it’s subject but also loneliness as its unity with place is severed. And so the work raises the question: how do we see these details in isolation? Is the branch more beautiful away from the tree? Can the tall grass be seen better once removed from its field? And in this isolation can a new identity be formed? One where the comfortable cloak of familiarity is thrown off to reveal a world of unending beauty? Where the new details are woven together to create a new blanket, one less familiar but no less warm?

Safe as Houses
Safe as Houses is a series of drawings of rural and suburban American homes. The renderings are small, placed in the middle of large, white sheets of paper. The diminutive size exposes the vulnerability of structures that should offer security. The houses in the drawings are fragile shelters — their promise of comfort is susceptible to many different threats: natural disasters, economic instability, as well as emotional turmoil and physical illness that can destroy a home from within.
The series takes root in our flailing economy and unpredictable global climate. If the houses can stand the storms brought on by greenhouse gasses, will they also escape foreclosure? How long can they really keep us out of the cold? The materials - ink on paper - were chosen for their vulnerability as ink runs easily with water and unprotected paper is at risk from many damaging elements. The drawings, like the houses, need care for their survival.
